London: The Beatles’ 1968 animated film ‘Yellow Submarine’ is set to be remade into 3-D, it has emerged.
It is believed that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will add their voices to the project. Director Robert Zemeckis is likely to use same motioncapture techniques he used for A Polar Express, Beowulf and A Christmas Carol. British comedian Peter Serafinowicz has been roped in as Sir Paul and Dean Lennox Kelly, Kev from the television programme Shameless, as John Lennon. Actor Cary Elwes will play George Harrison, and the American actor Adam Campbell will play Ringo Starr. Their performances will be "digitised" and crafted into highly realistic animated characters. "I think Yellow Submarine is a perfect example of a movie that can be re-envisioned in the digital cinema and be absolutely beyond spectacular," the Telegraph quoted Zemeckis as telling a newspaper. "It`s a controversial remake because the original is held in such affection and motioncapture animation has its detractors," said Terence Doyle, editor of British Film Magazine, "but the technology is improving all the time." Zemeckis hopes to complete the film for a 2012 release. ANI
