Mumbai: Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar offered her condolence to the King of ghazal, Mehdi Hassan’s family. Sharing fond memories about the singer, Lata said that Mehdi Hasaan had a unique voice. She rued the fact that she couldn’t share a stage with Mehdi Hassan.
“Demise of Mehdi Hassan is a great loss to music industry”, said Lata while talking to the media. She said it’s a very unfortunate that “Mehdi sahib is not with us anymore.”
Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar always had admiration for Mehdi Hassan. Khan Sahib wanted to come to Mumbai, or have Lata visit Pakistan to record a song together. However, due to various reasons, things didn’t work out. They did sing a duet, but the two singers had recorded their versions separately. Unfortunately, now that Hassan sahib is no more, the Indian melody queen will not be able to share the same stage with the ghazal singer.
The singer also expressed her grief on Twitter and wrote, "aaj bohot bade ghazal gayak kalaakar mehedi hassan sahab hamare bich nahi rahe, mujhe is baat bohot dukh hai, gazal gaayki ke kshetra mein unhone bohot bada parivartan laaya, aaj gazal unke jaane se ghazal ki bohot nadi haani hui hai, ab un jaisa kalakar phir se aana mushkil hai,wo bohot bade shastriya sangeet ke gayak bhi the,aur unke gaane me rajasthan ke sangeet ki khushboo bhi thi, unhone mere liye kuch gaane banaaye the, unme se hi ek ghazal maine jo unhone mujhe gaake bheji thi, uska maine duet karke record kiya tha,un ke saath mera ye ek hi gaana hai, main ishwar se prarthana karti hun, ki mehedi sahab ki aatma ko woh shaanti pradan karein(sic)"
84 year old shehanshah-ae-ghazal Mehdi Hassan passed away today after prolonged illness.
