Janet to launch independent career

Janet Jackson is thinking of shunning record labels.

London: Pop star Janet Jackson is thinking of shunning record labels to release her own music, after finding herself without industry backing for the first time in her career.
The 44-year-old singer is taking time away from the music scene to concentrate on her movie career, but when she returns, Jackson is considering taking complete control of her musical releases, reported Mirror online. "All the major labels have called and they want to sit down and talk about me signing. But I need to figure out if that`s the route I want to take or if I want to do something more independent," she said. "The latter might be better, where I`d be able to call the shots when creating my own album. I haven`t decided," Jackson added. The `Nasty` hitmaker signed a contract with A&M Records at the age of 16 in 1982 before moving to Virgin Records in 1991 as part of a record-breaking deal. She left the company in 2007 to sign another multi-million agreement with Island Records, which came to an abrupt end a year later after the release of just one disc. PTI
