Mumbai: The 54th Grammy Awards last night was a sombre affair. Artistes, besides celebrating the music that had made people sway in 2011, paid tribute to the legendary Queen of Pop, Whitney Houston, whose untimely death was a tremendous shock to the entire world. Many big names from the contemporary music firmament paid their tributes to Houston through stellar performances, most remarkable of which would be Jennifer Hudson’s. Hudson delivered a powerfully poignant performance of Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ that moved the ones present at the event to tears. Apart from Hudson’s rendition, there were performances by Bruce Springsteen, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown and Katy Perry among others. Soul singer Adele shone brightly with six Grammys, and her performance of ‘Rolling in the Deep’ was honoured with a standing ovation. Actress Priyanka Chopra, too, was present at the Grammys this year. She had earlier tweeted, “LA bound..the Grammys will be sad.. Such a tremendous loss to the world .."there can be miracles..when u believe.. somehow u will” .. thank u(sic).” Houston’s death came as a strong blow to the music fabric of the day. But as our very own Priyanka says, “there can be miracles..when you believe.”
