Washington: Kris Humphries is said to be secretly seeking 7 million dollars from his estranged wife Kim Kardashian to walk away from their marriage quietly.
According to sources close to the 27-year-old, the NBA star, through his Minnesota lawyer, has given the socialite an ultimatum either pay up, or endure an ugly, public trial, TMZ reported.
There have also been rumours doing the rounds that Humphries would be representing himself if the case goes to the trial.
However, his representatives say those reports are simply not true.
He was hoping to hire a Minnesota lawyer to handle his divorce case in court, but California law requires a local lawyer to assist, so the New Jersey Nets star was forced to hire a Los Angeles lawyer.
Then, the L.A. lawyer withdrew, leading to reports that he would be representing himself.
The 31-year-old TV personality and the basketball player were married last August in a lavish ceremony that was broadcast on the E! cable network.
Kardashian announced she was filing for divorce merely after 72 days of being married citing “irreconcilable differences”.
The pair is said to have a prenuptial agreement, and, sources claim that Humphries made 1 million dollars from the wedding and TV special as well as 250-300,000 dollars from his time on the Kardashians’ reality shows.
Humphries is also seeking an annulment to the marriage instead of a divorce, citing “fraud”.
