The festival of joy, Eid is just around the corner and we can already smell the delicious meethi sewaiyan and other Eid specific recipes! The festival of joy and fasting is celebrated at the end of Ramadan or Ramazan, which is the ninth holy month of Islamic calender.
Eid-ul-Fitr where 'Fitra' means charity is a festival that begins from 'Chand Raat' or the 'New Moon Night' and Eid prayers. It is the day when Muslims wear new clothes, women put beautiful henna designs on their hands; people meet and greet each other with a warm hug saying 'Eid Mubarak'. Also, gifts are exchanged and elders give Eidi to children in the form of money. Besides these regular rituals, people offer namaz and visit each other's house to offer greetings. This busy city celebrates Eid with much delight and ardour. On Eid, people offer prayers at the largest prayer gathering ground-Azad Maidan at South Mumbai. Famous Minara Masjid is decorated with different lights and colourful windows. Mohammed Ali Road serves a variety of food from meat to desserts. Also, Haji Ali Dargah is thronged by a huge crowd of visitors on this day.
