The festival of joy, Eid is just around the corner and we can already smell the delicious meethi sewaiyan and other Eid specific recipes! The festival of joy and fasting is celebrated at the end of Ramadan or Ramazan, which is the ninth holy month of Islamic calender.

Eid­-ul-­Fitr where 'Fitra' means charity is a festival that begins from 'Chand Raat' or the 'New Moon Night' and Eid prayers. It is the day when Muslims wear new clothes, women put beautiful henna designs on their hands; people meet and greet each other with a warm hug saying 'Eid Mubarak'. Also, gifts are exchanged and elders give Eidi to children in the form of money. Besides these regular rituals, people offer namaz and visit each other's house to offer greetings. 1. Mumbai

This busy city celebrates Eid with much delight and ardour. On Eid, people offer prayers at the largest prayer gathering ground-Azad Maidan at South Mumbai. Famous Minara Masjid is decorated with different lights and colourful windows. Mohammed Ali Road serves a variety of food from meat to desserts. Also, Haji Ali Dargah is thronged by a huge crowd of visitors on this day.

2. Delhi

Delhi being the capital city attracts maximum number of people during this time of festivity. Each festival is celebrated with equal zeal and zest in the capital. People gather at Jama Masjid to offer prayers and Old Delhi area is full of decorations. Ramzan special Haleem is served at the famous Gali Kebabiyan at Jama Masjid. The entire area is full of people and you can spot children donning new, bright and shiny clothes enjoying the festival.

3. Lucknow

This city celebrates Eid in their Lucknawi Andaz. People offer their namaz at the biggest ground Aishbagh Eidgah and also at Asifi Masjid. The spirit of Eid can be felt entirely when in Lucknow.

4. Srinagar

The valley celebrates this festival with full fervour and zest. Prayers are offered at Aasar-E-Shareef Hazratbal. People throng various markets to buy stuff and eateries. Popular markets such as Lal chowk, Goni Market and Regal Chowk are busy lanes during Eid as many head to buy new clothes, jewellery, meat and sweet dishes. A huge gathering assembles at Eidgah, a historic place to offer prayers on Eid.

5. Hyderabad

Interestingly, this city serves the famous Haleem only during this holy month. Charminar is the place where people gather to offer prayers whereas Charminar Road turns a shopping haven on this day. Mecca Masjid near Charminar attracts huge crowd as a place to end fast whereas prayers are offered at various places like Madannapet, Mir Alam Tank, Secunderabad, Masab Tank and Golcondaidgah.

6. Kolkata

The city of joy Kolkata, celebrates Eid with huge enthusiasm. People visit Kolkata Maidan at Red Road for offering Namaz prayers on the day. Muslim dominated areas are set-up with various markets month before the festival with a variety of kurtas, prayer caps, waistcoats, copies of Quran, ittar and the likes available at places like Chitpur, Park Circus, Rajabazaar and many others.
