2,000-year-old vessels found in Sri Lanka

Parts of ancient vessels, dating back 2,000 years, have been discovered in Sri Lanka, an official said.

Colombo: Parts of ancient vessels, dating back 2,000 years, have been discovered in Sri Lanka, an official said.

Sri Lanka`s National Archaeological Department found the artefacts in the southern coastal belt when a team was conducting a marine archaeological survey, archaeologist Sanath Karunarathne was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

He said they also found the wreckage of a very ancient ship close to the Godavaya port in Hambantota district.

A stone bench with an ancient inscription was also found.
