London: Inter Milan`s Esteban Cambiasso and Javier Zanetti were not included in coach Diego Maradona`s 30-man provisional World Cup squad on Tuesday.
There was a surprise inclusion for Liverpool`s Maxi Rodriguez, who appeared to have been discarded altogether by Maradona and a larger number of locally-based players than expected.
Cambiasso has never played under Maradona although he was called up once during the qualifiers and sat on the bench. Inter central defender Walter Samuel, a veteran of the 2002 finals who missed out on Germany four years ago, is in the squad.
Inter striker Diego Milito, who was among seven forwards including Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez, helped the Serie A title holders reach the Champions League final.
