Davies hungry for Solheim Cup glory on US soil

Sugar Grove: Britain`s Laura Davies has won tournaments all over the world but says she would especially cherish a first European Solheim Cup victory on American soil.
Tour veteran Davies has played in every Solheim Cup since the biennial team competition was launched in 1990 and is yet to share in European success away from home.Holders the United States lead the series 7-3 and are favourites heading into this week`s matches at Rich Harvest Farms. "It matters a lot," Davies, 45, told reporters after team practice on Wednesday. "We`re 7-3 down and I`d love to play in at least four more and try and make it 7-all. "That would be my dream and obviously that would constitute a couple of wins in America, which is the ultimate as far as I`m concerned." "To overcome the crowds and the American team ... the sense of satisfaction on Sunday night would be beyond anything I`ve achieved," said the big-hitting Englishwoman who has piled up 20 LPGA titles in a glittering career. "If we don`t do it (win on US soil) in my time playing in the Solheim, then it would be a huge hole in my career." Davies has played in a record 10 Solheim Cups, posting a win-loss-half record of 21-16-4. Her career tally of 23 points trails only Swede Annika Sorenstam (24) in the all-time standings. The retirement of 10-times major winner Sorenstam at the end of last year robbed the Europeans of an inspirational Solheim Cup figure but Davies holds her 2009 team mates in high regard. "I think it`s a very strong team," the four-times major winner said. "It`s as strong as it could be at the moment." "Whether it stacks up against some of the teams in the `90s when Annika was involved, it`s hard to see a stronger team than when Annika is in there. But this is absolutely the best of European golf, and luckily we`re playing well." Davies won her first major at the 1987 US Women`s Open before adding the LPGA Championship in 1994 and 1996 and the du Maurier Classic, also in 1996. Bureau Report
