Vasco: It`s do or die battle for Chirag United as they take on Churchill Brothers in their last group `B` quarter-finals league match of the 32nd Federation Cup, played at Tilak Maidan, Vasco here on Saturday.
With one team qualifying from this group for the semi-finals to be played at Cuttack, Chirag United, who have a goal difference of plus one against Churchill Bros, who have plus four after both are tied on four points each, Chirag`s needs an outright win to make it to the semi-finals.
Churchill Bros need a draw to advance further.
Chirag, clearly struggled against Sesa Football Academy in the opening match to win the match by a 1-0 margin and yesterday nearly lost against Viva Kerala before Josimar
came to his side`s rescue to head home a last minute goal to
salvage a draw and keep themselves in a chance to qualify for
the semi-finals.
They now need to pull up their socks and give the best
if they are to win against Churchill Bros, who have potent
strike force in the form of Odafe Okolie and Koko Sakibo.
Churchill Bros coach Vincent Subramanian is wary of
his defence who were caught on the wrong foot often by the
speedy Sesa Academy boys knows that they cannot afford to make
mistakes against the Kolkata side who have a good striker in
the form of Josimar who will cause problem if given space to
operate.
"We are on the advantage side as we need a draw to
advance, so our first priority is to guard our forte and
attack. Hopefully our boys play to the plan and win tomorrow,"
said Subramanian.
