Ghei, Gangjee out to save Asian Tour card

Khon Kaen (Thailand): Indian Open champion C Muniyappa will be eyeing his second title of the season, while
Gaurav Ghei and Rahil Gangjee would be out to retain their
Asian Tour cards when they tee off in the USD 300,000 King`s Cup at the Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club here this week. Asian Tour rookie Muniyappa stunned the field when he won the lucrative Indian Open, edging out Korean Lee Sung in a dramatic playoff to complete an emphatic victory. Prior to his triumph, Muniyappa`s best finish was a tied 13th place finish at the Brunei Open and the Indian would hope to end the year with another title against his name. Lying 63rd in the Order of Merit, Gangjee needs to ensure that he doesn`t slip out of the top 65, while Ghei 67th on the chart, may still survive to fight another season. "I`ll just try to have a good week and not put any pressure on myself. If I do not secure my card I will still be exempted from the career money category so it`s not like the end of the world," a nonchalant Ghei said. "But I definitely would like to have a good week and get into the top-65 and keep my card. It is always a good feeling to be able to keep your card even though I had a horrible year so it will be nice to finish it off in a good way," said the veteran, whose season was marred by average show and injuries. "I had a few injuries in the beginning and in the middle of the year. Things didn`t really go the way I wanted them to. I made a couple of changes that didn`t really work out and didn`t putt very well throughout the year," Ghei rued. "Things are coming around for me, I`m playing a little better now so hopefully I`ll have a good week this week and keep my card," he said. Looking back, Ghei felt recurring injuries marred his rhythm and never allowed him any momentum. "I had tendonitis in my wrist in the beginning of the year then I hurt my knee in Koh Samui. I finished fifth in Malaysia then hurt my knee in Koh Samui so just when I got into a rhythm, I got derailed again. "That`s part of playing professional golf. You have to deal with the injuries and keep yourself fit. Hopefully next year will be a better year," added Ghei. PTI
