Gujarat polls: Sonia dubs Modi govt as ‘anti-people’

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, on her third round of campaign at Patan district in north Gujarat on Monday, criticized the BJP government led by CM Narendra Modi terming its policies as anti-people.

Ahmedabad: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, on her third round of campaign at Patan district in north Gujarat on Monday, criticized the BJP government led by Chief Minister Narendra Modi terming its policies as anti-people. Addressing supporters here, Congress chief said, “There is large-scale corruption in Gujarat." The Congress chief also urged the voters to "give a courageous and befitting reply to the BJP government’s false, discriminatory and dictatorial government" when the first phase of polling is held on December 13. Without naming Modi, Sonia said the Modi government has not fully utilised the monetary assistance provided to the state by the centre. She also hit out at the BJP government for ignoring the minorities and not paying attention to problems being faced by the farmers in the state. Attacking the development plank of Modi government, she said one should ask why more than four and half lakh farmers were not getting power connection despite the Centre providing electricity. She also claimed that the education sector is suffering and people are fed up with the law and order situation in the state. "We have to change Gujarat and bring it back to the right path of development. We will strive to come to power to achieve this. People will give a befitting reply to this anti- people government," she said. The UPA chairperson also slammed the Modi government for lack of water and power shortage in Saurashtra region, Sonia is also expected to address two rallies in Sidhpur, north Gujarat and near Dakor in Kheda district. During her whirlwind tour of the state last week, Gandhi had sharpened her attack on Modi who is seeking a third consecutive term in office. Rahul Gandhi is expected to campaign at Sanand, Jamnagar and Amreli in Gujarat this week. Modi will also address rallies at 53 places simultaneously using 3-D holographic projection technology. Apart from that, he will also address six election rallies today. On Sunday, the Prime Minister campaigned in Gujarat. Addressing a rally in Vansada, Dr Singh appealed to the voters of Gujarat to get rid of politicians indulging in divisive politics. The first phase of elections will be held in Gujarat on December 13 followed by the second phase on December 17. The results are scheduled to be declared on December 20. With PTI Inputs
