New Delhi: Gandhian social activist Anna Hazare, who has been spearheading the anti-corruption crusade, has dismissed attempts to link him and his movement to a political party or specific ideology.
Speaking to reporters here, Thursday, he said “In my entire life I have never had any relations with the RSS, BJP, Congress, Shiv Sena or any other political party. My fight is against corruption and I will continue to do so."
The Congress has been calling him "a mask of RSS and Sangh Parivar`` and insisted he was no better than Ramdev.
In response Anna said, “Let them say what they want to…people know the truth.”
His close confidant civil rights activist Arvind Kejriwal had said that Anna Hazare is "hurt" by the Congress linking him with the RSS.
"He has a lot of self-respect and is very hurt by this statement," Kejriwal said.
Eminent lawyer Prashant Bhushan also called the statement "absurd".
"Such an allegation against Anna is not only absurd but is totally beneath contempt," he said.
"He has fought against all kinds of governments in Maharashtra, including (those headed by the) BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and the Congress. All of them have tried to woo him but he has stayed away from these mainstream corrupt political parties," Bhushan added.
Yesterday, Anna Hazare had observed a day-long fast at Rajghat to protest against the police crackdown on Baba Ramdev and threatened another hunger strike from August 16 if Lokpal Bill is not passed by then, saying it was part of the "second freedom struggle".
