Malabar United in quarterfinal of GV Raja football

Thiruvananthapuram: Malabar United of Kozhikode beat Kerala University by a solitary goal to enter quarterfinal league of the GV Raja all-India football tournament here on Saturday.

Nigerian forward Enyinnaya Loveday scored in the 34th minute through a free kick for the Kozhikode team. In the second half, Kerala University made some spirited attempts, but could not turn them into goals. In the 58th minute, forwards Visakh Sukumaran and Midhun Wilvwet made a futile attack at the Malabar United goal post, which was saved by the goalkeeper.KU lost a golden chance in the 75th minute when they failed to convert a penalty kick, which they got after Loveday tripped one of their forwards. In the first quarterfinal league match tomorrow, Sesa Goa will meet MEG Bangalore. PTI
