Islamabad: The Pakistan Hockey Federation will not be sending its women`s team to the Asian Games qualifying tournament in Thailand due to the security situation in Bangkok.
The PHF said it had acted on the advice of the Pakistan high commission in Thailand. The team was due to leave for Bangkok on Tuesday to play in the tournament from May 21-30.
Tanzeela Amir Cheema, secretary of the women`s game at the PHF, said: "We do not want to risk their lives."
The violence in Bangkok has left 39 people dead over the last six days and the Thai government has rejected a proposal for peace talks with leaders of the Red Shirts protesters.
