Castellon: Ace golfer Jyoti Randhawa was the best placed Indian at tied 22nd after turning in a modest card of two-under 69 on the opening round of the Castello Masters golf tournament here.
Delhi-golfer Randhawa sank a couple of birdies against equal number of bogeys and an eagle at the club de campo del mediterraneo here.
However, others Indians SSP Chowrasia and Shiv Kapur risk missing the cut after having a bad day in office.
Chowrasia was tied 97th at three-over 74, while languishing at the bottom of the leaderboard was Shiv Kapur with a card of seven-over 78.Playing his back nine first, Randhawa started with a birdie and ended with a bogey to make the turn at level-par. On resumption, he picked a birdie at the fifth, which got negated by a bogey at the seventh but an eagle at the eighth meant he ended the day on even par.
Kolkata golfer Chowrasia dropped a stroke at the 13th hole to make the turn at one-over. A birdie at the first on his front nine had raised some hopes of a comeback but back-to-back bogeys at the next two holes and another bogey at the eighth marred his day.
Shiv lost four strokes at the par-3 16th hole before dropping three more bogeys to end the day on a disappointing note.
At the top, Paul Lawrie of Scotland and Ricardo Gonzalez of Argentina shared the lead after carding seven-under 64 in the first round here.
