Rome: World champion Valentino Rossi cast doubts about his long-term future at Yamaha on Friday after they announced last week that Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo will be his team mate again next year.
Lorenzo trails leader Rossi by 25 points in the standings with five races to go and is the only rider with a realistic chance of stopping the Italian claiming a seventh premium class world title. "For Yamaha it is good to have two top riders but in recent years the main teams have always just had one lead rider," Rossi was quoted as saying. "I don`t know (if I`ll change team). I have a year of my contract still to run and then I`ll decide what to do," he added after clocking the fastest time in practice for Sunday`s San Marino Grand Prix "The end of this season and all of the next one risk becoming a torment." Rossi set a fastest time of one minute 35.304 seconds at the Misano track, which is a short ride from his home town of Tavullia, 0.126 quicker than Lorenzo, with the rest of the field well off the pace.
