Services rule the roost in canoeing and kayaking

Promising Chingching Arambam of Manipur and Services Sports Control Board`s Jemsboy Oinam today added a gold medal each to their tally to make it two apiece on the penultimate day of the canoeing and kayaking competitions.

today added a gold medal each to their tally to make it two apiece on the penultimate day of the canoeing and kayaking competitions of the 34th National Games here. Having clinched the 1000m men`s singles kayaking, Arambam won the 500m singles at the Maithon Dam here en route to his second yellow metal. Digvijay Negi (Services) and 18-year old Ramkrishna of Madhya Pradesh bagged the silver and bronze medals respectively. In the 500m men`s singles canoeing, Ankit of Madhya Pradesh finished on top but he was disqualified, which gave Oinam his second gold as Services ruled the canoeing and kayaking event with five gold and three silver medals. Bhakta Singh of Andhra Pradesh and Adil Mohiudin Bhat of Jammu and Kashmir won the silver and bronze medals in the category. Bhanu Bordoloi of Assam was disqualified in the 500m women`s singles kayaking following which Kiro Ragina of Andaman Nicobar was adjudged winner. Nanao Devi A of Manipur and Silpamol of Kerala won the silver and bronze medals in this event. The duo of Minimol and Simimol won the 500m women`s doubles kayaking while Andaman pair of Sandhya Kispotta and Ragina Kiro settled for silver. Shusila Devi Konjengbam and Bony Devi Laishram of Manipur bagged the bronze medals. Andaman finished on the second spot behind Services in the medals tally of canoeing and kayaking medals with a haul of 3-1-0. PTI
