Chennai: India`s number one female cueist Vidya Pillai successfully defended her ladies National Snooker
title after scoring a convincing 3-1 victory over young and
inexperienced Arantxa Sanchis of Maharashtra in the final on Monday. The summit clash was rather lop-sided despite Sanchis winning the second frame. Pillai, in winning the title for the sixth time, was rarely stretched and took the match at 53-34 43-53 92-15 54-15. The 33-year-old Vidya, who had won the Australian Open Championship title last year, brought her rich experience of green baize in to play in the third frame that she won on a break of 44. Sanchis, the 21-year old former junior champion, had a few openings in the three frames that she lost, but her lack of planning especially in safety play led to her disappointing show. Meanwhile, former national champion Chitra Magimairaj came up with a superb break of 74 and frame score of 109 to win her minor placings match against Keerath Bhandaal of Delhi. In another evening match to decide third place, Tamil Nadu`s Neena Praveen scored a straight frames victory over Suniti Damani of Bengal at 55-31 26-17. PTI
