Vidya Pillai successfully defended her ladies National Snooker
title after scoring a convincing 3-1 victory over young and
inexperienced Arantxa Sanchis of Maharashtra in the final on Monday.
The summit clash was rather lop-sided despite Sanchis
winning the second frame. Pillai, in winning the title for the
sixth time, was rarely stretched and took the match at 53-34
43-53 92-15 54-15.
The 33-year-old Vidya, who had won the Australian Open
Championship title last year, brought her rich experience of
green baize in to play in the third frame that she won on a
break of 44.
Sanchis, the 21-year old former junior champion, had a
few openings in the three frames that she lost, but her lack
of planning especially in safety play led to her disappointing
