Demonetisation debate in Rajya Sabha: As it happened on Wednesday

The first day of the Parliament's Winter Session witnessed the Congress-led Opposition attacking the Narendra Modi-led NDA government over its decision to ban old currency notes of Rs 500 and 1000, and demanding an immediate rollback.

New Delhi: The first day of the Parliament's Winter Session witnessed the Congress-led Opposition attacking the Narendra Modi-led NDA government over its decision to ban old currency notes of Rs 500 and 1000, and demanding an immediate rollback.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his government is ready for any debate on the demonetisation issue, while seeking support of the Opposition in the 'best interest of the nation'.

Led by TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, the opposition parties have charged the government for “faulty implementation” of demonetisation — scrapping 500- and 1,000-rupee notes — that has forced people to stand in long queues outside banks and ATMs to exchange old notes and withdraw fresh ones.
