New Delhi: Markets opened in green following news of appointment of new RBI governor Shaktikanta Das being as well as outcome of assembly elections in five states.

The BSE Sensex jumped 321.53 points or 0.91 percent to 35,471.54 while the NSE Nifty 95.75 points or 0.91 percent to 10,644.90.

Top gainers on the BSE include Yes Bank HeroMotocorp, Bharati Airtel, M&M, Tata Steel, Kotak Bank, Tata Motors and Axis Bank.

Meanwhile, the rupee plunged 32 paise to 72.17 per US dollar in early trade. And the global benchmark Brent crude was trading higher by 1.08 per cent at 60.85 per barrel.

MSCI`s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan firmed 0.09 percent in sporadic early trading.

Nikkei futures hinted at a modest opening bounce after two days of losses, while E-Mini futures for the S&P 500 edged up 0.07 percent.
