Mosque is not a religious place, can be demolished any time: Subramanian Swamy

Guwahati: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy has stoked a huge controversy by stating that a mosque is just a building and can be demolished any time.

While attending a function on Friday the noted Supreme Court lawyer said that a mosque is not a religious place, but just a building and can be demolished any time.

Swamy also challenged to debate any person who disagreed with his views.

Number of protests broke out after Swamy's remark and a criminal case was filed against him by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).

The KMSS accused the BJP leader of spreading communal disturbance ahead of Assam Assembly Elections.

KMSS president Akhil Gogoi condemned Swamy's statement and asked the state government to ban the entry of the BJP leader into the state.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also condemned Swamy's statement on mosques.
