New Delhi: Even as the nation continues to pay homage to the 23-year-old medical student, who was gang-raped by six men, the main opposition BJP on Monday expressed profound grief over her death and demanded the government to ensure speedy justice to the victim.

Expressing profound grief over the death of the 23-year-old student, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said the victim must be given speedy justice and the government must prepare a blueprint for the safety of women in the country.

"The girl, who had no relations with me, became my own daughter after this incident. She became the daughter of the entire country. I frequently think as to what was her fault. What crime did she commit? For what did she get punished? After analysing, I find that her only crime was that her body was that of a girl. She was born as a girl so she became the prey to the beast," Swaraj told the gathering at the BJP headquarters here.

Swaraj alleged that the criminals move around fearless in the national capital, and added that they have no fear of the Delhi Police for the two are hand-in-glove with each other.

"She came to a city where the criminals are not afraid of the police. This is not one incident; such incidents keep on happening almost every day. Cases of rape in a moving bus are evident of the fact that criminals in this city do not have any fear of the police. A gentleman fears before going to the police station, but a goon enters the police station with his shirt button open and a scarf in his hand," said Swaraj.

"Buses have today become a den of crime because none of the private buses ply on the road without give and take. Every private bus has a give and take relationship with the police," she added.

Expressing extreme disappointment over the entire handling of the situation by those in power, Swaraj further said the girl is no more, but added that she has awakened the nation's soul.

Swaraj, who is the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, reiterated the BJP''s demand for a Special Session of Parliament.

"I had called up the Prime Minister on the very first day and demanded that a Special Session of Parliament be called. The Home Minister rejected my demand. I called up the Home Minister the very next day and requested him to call an all-party meeting. He even rejected that demand by the evening," said Swaraj.

"Neither do they want to sit together nor do they want to call a Special Session of Parliament, but they are ready for drama," she added.

Swaraj also lashed out at the Congress-led UPA Government for cremating the victim''s body early on Sunday morning.

Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley visited the girl's residence here this morning and met the parents of the victim.

Amid outpouring of anger and grief in the country, the gang rape victim's body was flown to New Delhi from Singapore early on Sunday morning and cremated within hours. The cremation took place under a dense cover of fog.

The girl, a physiotherapy student, was gang raped and brutally assaulted allegedly by six men in a moving bus in South Delhi on the night of December 16.

The government, which is under sharp criticism from the opposition parties and the people of the country over the gang-rape incident, has set up a Commission of Inquiry to identify lapses and fix responsibility for the December 16 case and also constituted a committee of jurists for reviewing the existing laws to provide speedier justice and enhanced punishment in cases of sexual assault.

Our Constitution is raped almost every day in the Parliament House, so it is also necessary to introduce stringent laws to punish our politicians or political parties who indulge in such deplorable activities!

After Atal Bihari Ji, BJP has become a party of opportunits who are as insensitive to citizen demands as the congress under Sonia. BJp has failed it self by not raising the voice of people in a manner that an effective opposition party should do. They are always lenient to congress because of the share in corruption that they received in this govt. Had it been the earlier BJP which represented Delhi Citizen, They could have called Bandh `s and the supported the protest in a manner that it could reach the achievement. Its True.. Politicians are a different class.

Opposition, Ruling part they still dont get it. Justice for this girl cannot be got by a Kangaroo court punishment of her rapists alone. True Justice can be got when we as the people with a proactive and engaged leadership laydown the rules and regulations which can achieve the following.Capital Punishment to the rapists is not going to reduce the number of rapes if Women or Family members are insulted by law enforcement officials. Hence we need to start on sensitising the Police Force. You dont have to look outside the country for a model for this. Take the Kerala Police`s proactive approach to engage with school students and have them functional as student police. Or look at the Janamythri Police station in Kerala.Police officers are to be rewarded and recognized for helpfulness and pleasant behavior. 2. Fast track courts for trying offence against women. Lawyers [defense/opposition] to be hooked for contempt of court if invasive questions are asked during trial proceedings. Sensitive and professional approach when conducting rape trials. Juror based trials after Juror ion[similar to US]. No rape/molestation accused [convicted or otherwise] to be allowed to be member of a political party or run for elections or hold elected office.

even if government sentence them to be hang till death will it solve the problem? FROM ME A BIG NOOOOOO we need the strong awaken and hi-tech police protection . Every signal must have camera and police should monitor them awaken. we must have emergence number which assure us that in any case police will reach us in 3-4 minutes irrespective where I stand in India . Giving punishment to those 6 murder will not solve a bit of problem . today girl killed by rape tomorrow will get killed by robbery then will we need to tell again to the government that we need strong punishment for the robbery. MISSION SHOULD BE STOP CRIME NOT ONLY RAPE WE MUST HAVE AWAKEN ,TRUSTWORTHY, HI-TECH POLICE MAN IN THE COUNTRY NOT LIKE WHO WERE SLEEPING ON 16 DEC 12

Why BJP demands speedy justice for Delhi gang-rape victim only? there are above thousands of reported rape cases pending since long in most of India`s state including under BJP`s long ruled Madhya Pradesh -The most intense & shameful list is Madhya Pradesh which has had 3406 cases of rape reported in 2011.Is Delhi women/girls pain is deferment than Madhya Pradesh,WB,UP etc , Need justice for nation`s women
