Shankara, Kajal Kumar win public sector tournament

Mumbai: Former world champion R M Shankara of Air India and unheralded Kajal Kumari of Indian Oil won the men`s and women`s singles titles respectively in the All India Public Sector carrom tournament here.

In the final, Shankara prevailed over his team mate Mohd. Gufran in a closely fought three-game encounter 12-25 25-15 25-2 to win the men`s crown. In the women`s final, unseeded Kajal Kumari upstaged world and national champion Rashmi Kumari of ONGC 25-9 14-25 25-10 to annex the title for the first time in her career. The tournament was organised by Air India Sports Club under the auspices of All India Public Sector Sports Promotion Board.
