London: A heart-broken Rafael Nadal has revealed that missing out on the London Olympics was the toughest decision of his life, and winning a medal for his country was a big goal for him.
The 11-time Grand Slam winner couldn’t participate in the Games due to a troublesome knee injury, which had been bothering him since winning the French Open.
“It was one of the toughest decisions I’ve taken in my career because playing at the Olympics was a big goal for me. It only happens once every four years and is the most important event in the world of sport,” a daily quoted Nadal, as saying.
“I was very excited to represent my country. Last month was a hard month for me because my knee didn’t respond well after Roland Garros,” he added.
“But since the beginning of the season in Australia and in Roland Garros, I’ve had a very good season – one of my best seasons,” he said.
