Rain-hit farmers to get adequate compensation: Badal

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said government would soon conduct comprehensive survey to assess extent of damage caused to wheat and other crops by heavy rains in the state Saturday night.

Ludhiana: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said his government would soon conduct a comprehensive survey to assess the extent of damage caused to wheat and other crops by heavy rains in the state Saturday night. The Chief Minister said he had asked the Financial Commissioner (Revenue) to direct all Deputy Commissioners to carry out surveys in the areas lashed by rains to ascertain the damage caused to wheat and other crops.

Adequate compensation would be given to affected farmers after the survey was completed, he told media persons at Jhorhan village, some 35-km from here. He said the state government was fully committed to protect the interest of farmers from natural calamities. To a question on the recent ruckus in the legislative assembly, Badal said the Congress members had "undermined democratic norms and ethics of the House". He alleged the Congress leaders had misused their position by facilitating the entry of an unauthorised person in the assembly premises. Instead of apologising for their mistake, they created ruckus in the House, Badal said. PTI
