Sounding ecstatic over the overwhelming response to his latest release ‘Fashion’, director Madhur Bhandarkar in an exclusive interview with Spicezee, shared his feelings about the film, controversies and more…Spicezee: How do you feel about the tremendous response to ‘Fashion’ on the very first day? Has this Diwali turned out to be auspicious for you? Madhur: Yes, this Diwali has turned out to be very auspicious for me. After the film’s release, I have been receiving non-stop messages and congratulatory calls. I am happy that my film, which is based on a different subject, is being appreciated. Spicezee: Do you think the good opening of the film is due to the controversies that surrounded the film before its release? Madhur: Of course not. A film does not turn out to be a hit because of controversies. A film’s success depends on its story line, performances and treatment, not on debates and conflicts. Spicezee: It is noticed that all your films like ‘Traffic Signal’, ‘Chandni Bar’ are in dark shades and pessimistic in nature. In ‘Fashion’ also you have show the dark side of the fashion industry … Madhur: I am basically a very experimental kind of director. Only unique subjects interest me. I want to be challenged as a filmmaker, and choose the subject accordingly. I want to make films on a variety of subjects, which are entertaining as well as delivers a message. Spicezee: After watching the film, it has been noticed that some of the dialogues can be taken as scathing attack on the fashion industry… Madhur: No, certainly not. The dialogues are not intentional snipes at the fashion industry. The dialogues have been delivered by characters in a particular situation. The dialogues stem out of characters and are not to be taken as deliberate snide at the fashion fraternity. Spicezee: You are in Dubai, for the premiere of the film there. What is the response in Dubai? Madhur: Have just arrived in Dubai. But there is lot of excitement here over ‘Fashion’. People are eagerly waiting to watch the film.
