Government for better healthcare: Harsh Vardhan

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government wants to do extraordinary work in the health sector, union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said here Sunday.

The minister said that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government wanted the cause of healthcare to become a "mass movement" in the country.

"Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, we want to do extraordinary work in the health sector," said Harsh Vardhan, speaking at the inaugural foundation day of International Vaish Federation.

Vaish is a trader community among which the BJP arguably enjoys a considerable support.

"We want that issue of health becomes a mass movement and people could be linked with several government policies which are in the pipeline," the minister said.

The event was opened by Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah. Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan was also among the dignitaries present.

Mahajan urged people from the Vaish community to work for betterment of the society.
