New Delhi: Raising doubts over the encounter killing of eight SIMI activists in Bhopal, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, Tuesday, demanded a court-monitored probe into the incident.
The former MP chief minister also gave the encounter a communal colour by asking why only Muslims escape from jails and not Hindus.
Linking the jailbreak by SIMI men in Khandwa to the Bhopal incident, Singh said, “Why in only SIMI activists escaped from Khandwa jail? Why only SIMI Muslims escaped from Bhopal jail? Why do only Muslims break out of jail and not Hindus?”
“NIA must conduct the probe, a court should monitor it. Also, why only Muslims break out of jail, what is the problem, must also be probed,” he added.
His comments came on a day when thousands gave an emotional farewell to Bhopal jail guard Ramashankar Yadav who lost his life fighting the SIMI terrorists when they escaped from the jail in the early morning of October 31.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who attended Yadav's funeral, said, “Some people are doing vote bank politics on this matter which is highly condemnable, one must refrain from doing this.”
“Some political leaders cannot see the martyrdom of our jawans,” he added.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh said that there was no need to probe the encounter.
“No investigation is needed, police has provided all the info. NIA will only investigate their connections,” Singh said.
“Whenever terrorists are killed in an encounter, there are a few people in our country who raise doubts especially Congressmen,” he added.
Union MoS Kiren Rijiju echoed similar sentiments. “We should stop this habit of raising doubt, questioning the authorities and police, facts will come out,” he said.
