Indians stranded in Yemen to be evacuated through air and sea: Murugesan

Newly appointed Vice Chief of Naval Staff, P Murugesan, on Tuesday said that evacuations of Indians stranded in strife-torn Yemen, he said that a plan has been chalked out in a meeting with Government of India (GoI).

New Delhi: Newly appointed Vice Chief of Naval Staff, P Murugesan, on Tuesday said that evacuations of Indians stranded in strife-torn Yemen will be done through air and sea route.

“Evacuations will take place through sea and air route. Indian Navy, IAF and Air India will help in the rescue operation,” Murugesan was quoted by ANI.

He added that a plan has been chalked out in a meeting with Government of India (GoI).

An inter-ministerial meeting, attended by Externals Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, was held yesterday.

Vice Admiral P Murugesan was accorded with the Guard of Honor as he took charge as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff earlier today.

Meanwhile, talking about the Dornier crash, which claimed the life of two officers, he said that inquiry into the incident is going on and the cause behind it is being probed.

“We are human beings and machinery may also fail. We don't know exactly what happened. Inquiry is going on,” he told ANI.

Speaking about the crash, he further said that it took place at time when it was pitch dark and during one of the live combat mission trainings.
