Kargil Vijay Diwas: Manohar Parrikar, three service chiefs pay tribute at Amar Jawan Jyoti; PM expresses solidarity

New Delhi: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar including all three service chiefs - Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha and Navy chief Admiral RK Dhowan - on Sunday paid tribute to the Kargil war heroes by laying a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti here.
During a marathon run held to mark the occasion of 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' here, the ex-servicemen raised the demand for the implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP) policy.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tributes to the Indian armed forces, and hailed their valour and sacrifices which was demonstrated in the Kargil conflict.
"I salute the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the beloved nation," he tweeted.

The Kargil Diwas reminds us of the valour and sacrifices of the Indian armed forces, the Prime Minister said.
Army personnel also paid tribute at Dras War Memorial, Kargil district in Jammu and Kashmir, on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas,
The Kargil War was an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place between May and July 1999 in Jammu and Kashmir's Kargil District and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LOC).
The conflict, which claimed the lives of more than 500 officers and soldiers, many of whom were posthumously given gallantry awards, is also referred to as Operation Vijay, which was the name of the Indian operation that cleared the Kargil sector.
The town of Kargil is located 205 km from Srinagar, and faces Pakistan's so-called Northern Areas across the Line of Control.
