Jaipur: Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday offered a chadar on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the dargah of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinduddin Chisti.

The PM has offered this 'chadar' praying for peace and progress and prosperity of the nation, Naqvi said.

A message from the Prime Minister was read out after the chadar was offered.

According to an official release yesterday, the Prime Minister greeted the people on the occasion of the annual Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

He said India has been a land of sages, saints and prophets for thousands of years.

Recalling Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti's message of amity to his followers, Modi said it continued to be relevant.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi also handed over a chadar to be offered at the dargah, a party release said. She handed over the chaadar to party leaders at her residence in the capital.

The 803rd Urs (annual festival) of the revered Sufi saint began on Monday.
