New Delhi: Colonel Nizammudin - the man who had played a pivotal role in forming the Azad Hind Fauj and a close aide of late freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose - has created a history of sorts by opening a bank account at an age of 116 years.

Col. Nizammudin, who was the driver of Netaji, is a resident of Mubarakpur in the Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh.

In order to open a joint account with his wife, Nizamuddin alias Saifuddin had furnished his voter identity card to the State Bank of India that states he was born in 1900.

In February this year, a Japanese man, who was believed to be the oldest man alive, passed away at the age of 114.
