Nirbhaya gang-rape case: Convict demands security in Tihar, alleges attack by other inmates

New Delhi: One of the convicts in the brutal 16 December Delhi gang-rape case, Vinay Sharma, has filed an application in Patiala House Court, demanding security for himself in Tihar Jail.

According to ANI, Vinay has alleged that he was attacked in jail by other inmates on the night of August 15. He also stated that due to the attack he has got his left hand and leg fractured.

Earlier, Ram Singh, the 35-year-old main accused in Nirbhaya's brutal gang rape, was found dead in his 15X12 feet cell in Tihar Jail hours before he was to appear in court.

As per prision spokesperson Sunil Gupta, Singh had killed himself in a cell he shared with three other inmates in New Delhi's Tihar jail just before dawn.

Singh fashioned a noose from threads torn from the mat he slept on and hanged himself from a grille in the ceiling before dawn. While there were closed circuit cameras throughout Tihar, there were none in individual cells, Gupta was quoted as saying by Reuters.

However, his family had suspected a 'foul play' and alleged that he was maltreated in prison.
