New Delhi: A private member's bill seeking total ban on use and import of white asbestos in the country was among a dozen such legislation introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Vijay Jawaharlal Darda (Congress), who moved the White Asbestos (Ban on Use and Import) Bill, 2014, sought use of safer and cheaper alternative to white asbestos.
Darda moved two more bills including the Supreme Court (Establishment of a Permanent Bench at Nagpur) Bill, 2014 for a bench in the Maharashtra city.
The other bill was the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2014 that pertains to providing protection of personal data and information of an individual collected for a particular purpose by one organisation, and to prevent its usage by other organisation for commercial and other purposes.
Rajkumar Dhoot (BJP) introduced three bills -- The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2014 (amendment of Article 371 on special provision with respect to the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat, The Illegal Immigrants and Missing Foreign Nationals Identification and Deportation Authority of India Bill, 2014, and The Homeless Pavement Dwellers (Welfare) Bill, 2014.
The House also saw introduction of four other bills for amendment in the Constitution including one by Vishambhar Prasad Nishad (SP) and three by Mansukh L Mandaviya (BJP) for amending certain Articles of the Constitution.
Vivek Gupta (Trinamool Congress) introduced the Compulsory Physical Fitness of Children through Sports in Schools and Development of Sports Infrastructure Bill, 2014.
Kanimozhi (DMK) introduced a bill to amend the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
