New Delhi: Absconding mafia don Rajendra Sadashiv Nikhalje alias Chhota Rajan, a trusted aide turned bitter foe of mob boss Dawood Ibrahim, has been arrested in the Indonesian resort Bali, Indian authorities said on Monday.
Rajan finally gave his exact location & travel plan of Australia to Indonesia to India agencies. Further, Indian agency alerted Indonasian authorities & arrested Rajan.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh thanked Interpol and the Indonesian government for nabbing Chhota Rajan, who began life as a black marketer of movie tickets before embracing murders, extortion, kidnappings and more.
There will not be any extradition proceeding as Rajan will be deported to India which will take less time. The deportation process is also important as there are chances of underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim's gang attacking Rajan in Bali if he is being kept there for long time.
Now, Rajan will be brought to Delhi where he will be kept in hospital. According to media reports, Mumbai police will be kept away from Rajan for considerable period.
Chhota Rajan operated from Chembur and surroundings in Mumbai from the mid-1970s when he became a trusted henchman of Dawood, now India's most wanted don who reportedly lives in Pakistan.
Dawood and Chhota Rajan fell out after the bloody March 1993 Mumbai serial blasts that Dawood ordered to avenge the communal riots in the city two months previously and the earlier Babri mosque razing.
Chhota Rajan slipped out of India in 1995 and remained on the run till his arrest.
According to media reports, the don -- declared a wanted man by Interpol since 1995 -- flew into Bali, home to a large number of Hindus, from Sydney on Sunday afternoon.
The arrest is expected to have both immediate and long-term implications for Mumbai's underworld.
Here are some points behind his arrest:
1) Chhota Rajan is in very bad medical shape. Has to be treated regularly & under observation.
2) He was getting old.
3) he was getting weak after his key associates started deserting him.
4) At this old age & bad health it was difficult for him to runaway from Dawood for life.
Why Dawood never wanted to get him arrested:
1) Underworld Dawood wanted to kill Chhota Rajan.
2) If Dawood wanted to get him arrested then he could have done that in September 2000 in Bangkok and in 2014 in Australia. But instead Dawood chose to attack him.
