Mumbai: In a shocking twist to the case of Indrani Mukherjea's arrest for the murder of her 'sister' in 2012, it emerged on Wednesday that the deceased Sheena Bora was in fact her daughter.

Speaking to an English news channel, Mikhail Bora – Sheena's brother – revealed that they were in fact Indrani's children.

Indrani Mukherjea is the wife of former STAR CEO Peter Mukherjea. She was arrested by the Khar Police last night following questioning over her alleged role in the murder of Sheena Bora in 2012.

Maharashtra's Raigad Police had found remains of Bora in a forest following which a murder case was registered against unidentified persons.

Indrani was produced before the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate court, which remanded her in police custody till August 31.

Mikhail said that he has no doubt his mother Indrani killed his sister Sheena.

“The motive for murder was not property dispute as being speculated, it was something else,” Mikhail said.

Mikhail told the channel that he had lost contact with his sister Sheena long time back.

“Every time I used to ask my mother where is Sheena, Indrani used to tell me that she was abroad and didn't want to talk to me,” Mikhail told the channel.

According to Mikhail, Indrani had been married to his father (he refused to talk about him) for about four to five years.

“Both Sheena and I were introduced to Peter as brother and sister,” he further told the channel.

Meanwhile, Peter Mukherjea told the same channel that he was unaware Mikhail and Sheena were Indrani's children.

“Sheena and Mikhail were introduced to me as Indrani's siblings by Indrani herself,” Peter said, adding he never doubted what Indrani told her.

“I was also told that Sheena was sent to the US for further studies (when she disappeared). I was completely in dark (about the entire matter),” Peter told the channel.

“I was not aware of anything, their conversation used to be in Assamese which I couldn't understand,” he said.

Peter revealed that Sheena was having an affair with his younger son from a previous marriage.

“Indrani did not approve of their relationship,” Peter said.

Meanwhile, reports also quoted Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Mari as confiming that Sheena Bora was Indrani Mukherjea's daughter.

"The case being more than two years old where there isn't any DNA sample of the deceased or appropriate remains of the body, police is only relying on co-accused's confession," an officer at the Khar Police Station, who is part of investigation team, said on condition on anonymity, as per PTI.

Indrani's driver, a co-accused who was picked by the police few days back in connection with the murder, too was arrested yesterday.

During interrogation, the driver claimed that Indrani had killed Bora and that he had helped her in disposing of the body by dumping it in the forests of Raigad district, the officer said.

The Raigad Police had come across remains of an unidentified body, which they had disposed of without collecting DNA samples, the officer said.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria had interrogated Indrani at Khar Police Station yesterday.

The officer said they would take the two accused to the crime spot where the body was dumped.

The police is, meanwhile, also on the lookout for a third accused in the case.
