Sunanda Pushkar murder case: Shashi Tharoor quizzed by SIT twice on Thursday

New Delhi: Almost a week after quizzing Sunanda Pushkar's son Shiv Menon in connection with her mysterious death, Delhi Police's Special Investigation Team questioned former Union minister Shashi Tharoor twice on Thursday.

Tharoor was questioned the second time at Vasant Vihar's Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) office late in the night.

He first reached at south Delhi's Sarojini Nagar Police station but was later taken to Vasant Vihar AATS office at 11.30 am in the morning.

"He reached at AATS Vasant Vihar office at around 11.20 am and his questioning started around 11.30 am," a police officer said.

The SIT team had earlier questioned him on January 19 at its same AATS office for around four hours.

A five-member SIT comprising Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prem Nath and Additional DCP PS Kushwaha, besides three officers, asked Tharoor several questions, including those related to the now defunct IPL Kochi franchise.

Tharoor's domestic help Narayan Singh also reached at the SIT office along with him and the SIT team also interrogated him.

Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi told reporters had on Wednesday said Tharoor will be quizzed again “because we need clarification on certain points from him”.

Asked whether Tharoors' domestic help Naryan Singh will also be questioned again, Bassi had said, "The witnesses who were at home or were present at the hotel, there are few clarifications which need to be obtained from them too."

"There are many things emerging from the analysis of the statements so far but we will be able to reach a conclusion only after the investigation is over," he had added.

Menon was questioned by the Special Investigation Team on February 5.

The police team probing the case has questioned at least 15 people.

Tharoor, a Congress MP, his staff members and close friends were among those quizzed by the Delhi Police.

Former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and senior journalist Nalini Singh, too, have been questioned by police.

52-year-old Sunanda was found dead in her suite at a five star hotel in south Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014, a day after she was involved in a spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar on microblogging website Twitter over the latter's alleged affair with Tharoor.

Police had last month filed a murder case as part of its probe.
