Jammu: The 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar national highway was on Friday closed for vehicular traffic due to snowfall leading to slippery conditions, forcing over 300
vehicles to halt at various places enroute.

Due to slippery road conditions and snowfall between Patnitop and Jawahar Tunnel area, the highway, which is the only surface link between Kashmir and the rest of the country, was closed for vehicular traffic early this morning, police
said.

The highway has become very slippery due to snowfall between Patnitop and Batote, they said, adding that due to the closure, over 300 vehicles are stranded at various places enroute.

Meanwhile, the Border Road Organisation (BRO) officials have been deployed to clear the snow of the highway to make it trafficable, they added.
