Hadlee predicts ‘testing times’ ahead for axed captain Taylor

Legendary New Zealand all rounder Sir Richard Hadlee has predicted testing times for former captain Ross Taylor in their upcoming series against England, adding he was disappointed by Taylor’s decision to make himself unavailable for the South Africa series.

Wellington: Legendary New Zealand all rounder Sir Richard Hadlee has predicted testing times for former captain Ross Taylor in their upcoming series against England, adding he was disappointed by Taylor’s decision to make himself unavailable for the South Africa series. The New Zealand legend said that it would have been better had Taylor continued to play for his team, although he sympathised with the former captain over his controversial sacking incident.
According to Hadlee, Taylor’s self-exile from the team would prove difficult for him when he returns in the squad and would face an uneasy situation with teammates, who had witnessed his walking away from the team. Hadlee also said that there were different factions, those supporting Taylor and those supporting another captain, and added that it is important for Taylor that his head space is right, he has some form and fits back in after his so-called sabbatical.
Hadlee also felt that the entire incident was confusing and took an obvious toll on Taylor. He further said that Taylor had been hurt and offended, not so much by the decision but how it came about, and added that the decision should have been made in the review after the tour, instead of doing it before the first Test. Hadlee also praised new New Zealand coach Mike Hesson for showning strong qualities with his decision to replace Taylor between tours. ANI
