New Delhi: Leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will meet President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday and reiterate their objection and protest over a Delhi magisterial court`s verdict to acquit Congress party leader Sajjan Kumar in connection with a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
The SAD delegation, to be headed by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, will submit a memorandum on the 1984 Delhi riots verdict to the President.
The Central Bureau of Investigation might move the Delhi High Court against the acquittal of Kumar in the riots case, informed sources said.
A Delhi court had on April 30 acquitted Kumar in the case.
District Judge JR Aryan convicted the other five accused in the case, related to the killing of five people in the Delhi Cantonment area during violence against Sikhs following the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.
The acquittal of Sajjan Kumar had evoked widespread protests from the Sikh community.
