New Delhi: After BJP President Rajnath Singh`s comments about the party`s handling of minority community triggered a debate, the party on Wednesday said it has not committed any mistake which warrants an apology.
"Rajnath Singh said BJP has not committed any mistake. We are not like Congress. Had we committed any mistake, we would have sought an apology by bowing our heads. BJP has not done any mistake. We have honestly worked for the welafre of people of the country and have treated Hindus and Muslims with equality," BJP Spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.
He said the party president had said "had there been any shortcoming on its part, we would have bowed our head. He had said there has been no shortcoming on our part. He has shown a big heart and the whole nation has welcomed it."
Hussain said it is Congress which should seek an apology instead. "By claiming to be secular, it has done just the opposite."
He added that in Mission 272+, the party has to involve the Muslim community and not move without its support.
Rajnath Singh, speaking in Karnataka said, "Congress party and its governments have destroyed the communal and social harmony of India. BJP has always pursued the path of harmony and positive secularism. Congress should apologise from the nation, not BJP."
Hussain tried to defend Narendra Modi government`s handling of Gujarat riots and claimed had it been any other government it would not have acted so strongly.
