BJP question Nitish Kumar`s warm up call to Lalu Prasad Yadav

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday questioned former Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar`s move to seek support of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav for the Janata Dal-United candidates contesting for the Rajya Sabha seats in the state. BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said, "Nitish had opposed Lalu and came to power after a forming a separate party. Now that he is not getting support from the public, he is warming up to Lalu. He is trying to get Lalu`s support." He said that Nitish must explain why he needs Lalu`s support as all these years he was staunchly opposing him. "For few Rajya Sabha seats and for power he is betraying his principles. The people have a right to ask for answers. People never voted for him so that in the end they will unite," he added. Earlier today, Lalu had said that he is yet to take a final decision on supporting JD-U. "Nitish Kumar had called me. I haven`t taken any decision. I will first discuss with my MLAs before making the final call," said Lalu Yadav. On Saturday, Nitish Kumar had called on Lalu seeking his support for JD-U contesting in the Rajya Sabha polls. The JD-U has fielded Sharad Yadav, Pawan Verma and Ghulam Rasool for the three Rajya Sabha seats. Meanwhile, rebel JD-U leader Sabir Ali has also filed his nominations as an independent candidate. The other leaders who are also in the nomination fray are Independents Anil Kumar Sharma and Dilip Jaiswal. Sabir Ali and Anil Kumar Sharma are banking on support of those JD-U MLA`s who belong to the anti- Nitish camp. Dilip Jaiswal is looking for BJP support to sail through. The elections for the three Rajya Sabha seats are to be held on June 19.
