New Delhi: North India is fighting an extended spell of winter chill this year with temperatures dipping after a bout of heavy snow and rain lashed the hill states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Delhiites woke up to a chilly morning on Thursday with the temperature dipping to 4 degree C, the lowest temperature recorded in February. But the Capital will start getting warmer from next week as western disturbances have been predicted, according to the met department.

Other cities across the region including Dehradun, Chandigarh are also in the grip of a cold wave like situation.

Heavy snow fall was recorded from the upper reaches of Uttarakhand and Himachal with Shimla receiving record snow fall in the past few days.

And it is just North India. Mumbaikars are also perplexed with the sudden drop in temperature – 8.8 deg C today - in the city.

Gujarat is also under a cold spell with most places in the state recorded temperatures below 10 degrees. Ahmedabad recorded 9.4 degrees while Naliya was the coldest at 0.8 degrees.
