Mumbai: The legend of Indian cinema Amitabh Bachchan did not make it to the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26. When asked reasons for not doing so, the actor recently said that he could not attend the function held in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan due to his busy schedule but nonetheless he had congratulated Modi like many others.
In an interview to a leading daily, Bachchan, who is the brand ambassador of Gujarat Tourism, said that as he worked late hours, he failed to reach the national capital for the event.
Amitabh, along with more than 4000 guests, was invited to Modi swearing-in ceremony.
When asked about the current law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh and the rising incidents of rape in the state, the actor maintained that rape was a horrible thing and that strongest action must be taken against rapists.
Bachchan belongs to Allahabad and his wife and actor Jaya is a Rajya Sabha member from Samajwadi Party, the ruling party in UP, with Akhilesh Yadav being the CM.
The legendary actor was once a Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from the Congress party during the era of Rajiv Gandhi. However, he later quit politics and has since maintained that it was not his cup of tea and he was happy in his profession of acting.
He has also refrained over the years from commenting on the reportedly soured relations between the Gandhi and the Bachchan family after the death of Rajiv who was Amitabh`s friend.
Since bidding adieu to politics Amitabh has shied away from aligning with or opposing any political party or taking a political stand.
