Kolkata: The upcoming marquee IPL clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sourav Ganguly-led Pune Warriors has gone viral on the internet, with the popular social networking sites going abuzz with posts and activities related to the match.
Sites like Twitter and Facebook are flooded with posts speculating on the outcome of the sold-out fixture, seen as Ganguly`s revenge match against his former IPL franchise. Many fans have floated their own groups.
Sayan Roy, who describes himself as a web designer, has opened one such group titled, `Pune Warriors vs Kolkata Knight Riders (Cricket Dhamaka)`, boasting more than 2,400-odd members. There are also several dedicated communities for each of the IPL team. "Dada jekhane Bangla sekhane (Bengalis follow Dada everwhere)," ran a post written by Animesh Goswami. Another Ganguly fan Anushtup Pal wrote: "Pune ki kothay Janina... (I don`t know, whether a Pune supporter) I am a Gangulian." "Dada is the face of Bangali, worldwide... Just one man but KKR is already feeling the heat. We like KKR, but Dada we love you," mentioned Mayukh Chowdhury, who belongs to one such group. There are also endless debates of whether to support the home side or Pune Warriors. "If Dada wins, can we say Kolkata have won? Pune will only gain for Dada`s win," said Samrat Gupta. There is another fan-based Knight Riders group, `Once a KKR, always a KKR`, which has posted an open letter to Ganguly. "To Dada with love, we love and respect you. We can never forget your contributions to Indian cricket and the world. But we love our city Kolkata too much. Our support towards KKR does not mean we hate you... Sorry Dada if we have done any wrong, please forgive us," read a letter by Pramit Maity. Ganguly`s supporters too were equally active, floating a group titled, `No Dada, No KKR - Go Back SRK`. For the tech-savvy mobile users, a free Android app has been developed for Ganguly`s fans to stay updated about their favourite cricketer. "The mobile application is the first of its kind for any cricketer in the world. It has latest news, tweets, pictures, videos and also the scorecard of PWI games," the app developer said. PTI
