Plans afoot to send all-party delegation to Lanka

New Delhi: Government plans are afoot to send an all-party delegation led by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj to Sri Lanka in April to press for stopping all atrocities against Tamils living there and also look into their living conditions after the end of LTTE.

Swaraj told reporters that the all-party delegation's visit to Sri Lanka is very much on and is tentatively scheduled from April 16 to 21.

BJP has nominated Prahlad Joshi from Lok Sabha and M Venkaiah Naidu from Rajya Sabha as its representatives in the delegation.

India had recently voted- after some amendments for a US resolution at the UN condemning Sri Lanka for the atrocities against Tamils during the war with LTTE.

Sri Lanka had openly spoken against India's decision.

Deputy Leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha S S Ahluwalia had first made the suggestion in December in Parliament that an all-party delegation should be sent to Sri Lanka to learn about the condition of Tamils there after LTTE was decimated and its Chief V Prabhakharan killed.

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna had welcomed the suggestion in the Rajya Sabha and later made a statement in the Lok Sabha endorsing the idea.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal is said to be working on finalising the details of the visit, including the list of MPs who will be part of the delegation.

Swaraj said she is hopeful the trip will take place. The delegation was to leave on February 11 but due to Assembly elections in five states and other factors, the trip was postponed.

NAK - Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has invited not only Indian politicians, but any one who cast doubts about Sri Lanka including the diaspora to come and see for themselves. Any one is welcome to come, see and offer any advices if they so whish but If any one thinks they can press and push, they better make some changes to their itenarary. The tragedy today is that there are many many people express opinions with either supplied or picked up information without even visiting the place.

This is an excellent move by the Indian politicians as seeing it for themselves would help them to remove from their belief of all the the false propoganda carried out by Tamil racist parties and the Tigers. This will also help them to see the superior benefits enjoyed by Tamils compared to the suffering in South India which led them to come to SriLanka as illicit immigrants, before the Tigers started their brutal campaign. Also unlike in South India all tamils in SriLanka are equals as the Hindu caste system is not applied when it comes to education, emplyment and general day to day living. I believe the Tamils in SriLanka are enjoying human dignity not available in Soth India.

It is better this delegation visit places like Kashmir,Tamil nadu and places like Maoist rebels live. The reason for this is conditions for Sri Lankan Tamils are twenty times better than these people in India. Human right violations in these places are very extreme. Corruption and discrimination in India is far worst than any other place in Asia.Whole world know this. So, their concern about Sri Lanka condition is rideculous. India please clean your own yard. You treacherous act on Asian countries will pay back soon.

The discrimination of minority Tamils in Sri Lanka is just a myth and a tool Tamil Nadu politicians make capital out of it. The top ten business establishments in the island are owned by Tamils. There are three important Tamil ministers in the cabinet.Within the short period of time, after the elimination of terrorism one must see the development in the previously affected areas. In fact the Tamils are liberated from the clutches of the Tiger brutality. How many in India know this truth.

I have been to Sri Lanka several times & the progress is astonishuing ! I thinbk, it would be better for a delegatuion from Sri Lanka visit India specially the south & help the terrible plight of the homeless & the poverty & misery . Indians (tamils should be thankful to Sri Lanka for having so many Tamils of indian origin as their citizens & awy from poverty at home.
