New Delhi: Not wanting to be caught on the wrong foot, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Friday decided to play the awaiting game and not name their presidential candidate, just yet.

Speaking to the press after a meeting of the NDA constituents, senior BJP leader LK Advani said, “We talked about the way forward…today’s meeting was to analyse the situation not to name a candidate.”

As per reports, NDA would have named Dr APJ Abdul Kalam if Mulayam Singh would have openly backed his candidature.

Now that Mulayam is keeping mum on Dr Kalam’s name, the BJP-led alliance decided to put the ball in UPA’s court. Advani said, “Let the UPA first announce its candidate, we will watch every development closely.”

He also used the opportunity to slam the Manmohan Singh-led government, he said, “There is a total lack of coherence in the government and intense distrust at the higher level as never seen before."

Interestingly, UPA was scheduled to meet today morning but the meeting was postponed to today evening, apparently to let the NDA announce its candidate.
