Colombo: India and Sri Lanka discussed Maritime matters, including the issue of fishermen straying in each other`s territorial waters, as they held a crucial annual meeting aimed at strengthening Naval relationship.
The 21st International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) meeting between Sri Lanka and India was held onboard the Sri Lanka Naval Ship Sagara at the Indo-Sri Lanka Maritime Boundary Line off Kankasanthurai yesterday, Lankan Navy said on Saturday.
The IMBL meeting is an annual event aimed at strengthening the naval relationship between the two neighbouring countries.
The two sides were represented by the respective Naval officials and coast guard officials at the meeting.
During this session, matters of mutual interests related to naval operations and fishing activities, the issue of fishermen straying in each other`s territorial waters, were discussed, the Navy added.
Maritime issues figure prominently in the high level diplomatic talks between Sri Lanka and India.
