Zee Media Bureau Rewari: After chanting Barack Obama`s `Yes, we can!` while addressing a massive public meeting in Hyderabad on 12 August 2013, BJP`s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed his wish to build the world`s tallest statue in Gujarat, `Sardar Patel memorial` which can even beat the height of `Statue of liberty`. The Statue of Liberty in the bay off New York City, of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, was a gift to the United States from the people of France and was dedicated Oct 28, 1886. Addressing a rally at Rewari in Haryana, the Gujarat chief minister appealed to the people of the country to help build the `Statue of Unity`, in memory of the `Iron Man of India`- Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. After India got independence from the British rule, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India, with great wisdom and political foresight consolidated more than five hundred princely states and brought them under Indian dominion. "Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a farmer and he was born in Gujarat. He played a vital role in uniting the country. But in the last few years, Patel, known as the `Iron Man of India`, has been forgotten," Modi said. The Gujarat Chief Minister said, "I wish the `Statue of Unity` should be two-time taller than the Statue of Liberty in the US." "I want cooperation from countrymen in its making. I do not want cannon or sword. I want pieces of iron used in the fields while farming," he said, adding "the project would take four to five years to complete". With PTI inputs
